Teaching Position Description


Under the supervision of the building principal, the teacher is responsible for teaching full-time for the duration of the 2024/25 school year. The teacher is responsible for fostering the intellectual, social, physical, and faith development of children in the first years of their elementary school experience.

Teaching Position Requirements

Recognizes and supports the unique Catholic Mission of the school by speaking, acting, and instructing consistent with the teachings of the Catholic Church; a teacher may not espouse any doctrine inconsistent with the teachings of the Church.
Gives evidence of lived Gospel values by being an active member of a faith community and being open to the importance of personal faith journey; strives to model the teaching of Jesus by attitude and example.
Help build the school’s faith community by a demonstrated willingness to participate in and plan school religious and service activities.
Demonstrate effective planning skills by preparing lessons designed to implement stated goals and objectives and by incorporating school and diocesan curriculum objectives in lesson plans.
Demonstrate competence in teaching by demonstrating current, thorough knowledge of curriculum and subject matter and be able to communicate effectively with students; be able to organize classroom learning materials to maximize student time on tasks as well as motivate student learning.
Develop and use effective methods of evaluation that are directly related to curriculum objectives and to concepts and skills taught; consistently and effectively evaluate student progress.
Have a strong belief that all children can and will be successful.
Establish a consistent disciplinary approach which promotes self-direction and positive self-image; set high standards for student behavior and manager inappropriate behavior effectively.
Maintain a functional and pleasant learning environment.
Cooperate with school and diocesan administration; work effectively with all staff members to promote positive relationships with students and parents.
Have strong leadership skills as well as the heart of a servant.
At all times demonstrate professional responsibility in enforcing diocesan and school policies and regulations.
Maintain confidentiality of information, display sound judgment in dress and general behavior.
Education and Experience

Associates degree in education from an accredited university. Bachelor degree preferred.
Early Childhood teaching experience, preferred
Certified by the State of Colorado as a Teacher
Other Requirements

Must be able to pass a criminal background investigation
Must have good driving record, current Colorado driver’s license and automobile insurance

 
After School Program Child Supervisors

After School Supervisors should be energetic and dependable adults to supervise students K-6 during the After School Program. Hours are 3:00pm to 5:30pm or last pick up. Can be available any number of weekdays to apply. Part-time and substitute positions are utilized. Fort Lewis education students can partner with St. Columba for work hours.

Job Requirements:
Provide supervision and activities in a positive safe atmosphere
Maintain confidentiality of information
Display sound judgment in dress and general behavior
Pass criminal background check
Recognize that no child should ever be sad, lonely, or desperate
Be able to multi-task supervision of children of many varied ages
Be able to handle ongoing new situations with smiling, positive action

About the School

St. Columba Catholic Elementary School is a traditional single-parish school with approximately 200 students. Every teacher in the school is responsible for the development and readiness of students in their specified content areas, while creating a school of faith and community. Students learn the importance of academic excellence in an environment of love and discipline rooted in the Gospel truth.

St. Columba Catholic School is a strong Parish school committed to providing high quality education in an environment of traditional Catholic teaching. St. Columba currently has an enrollment of 250 pre-kindergarten through 8th grade students, of which, 30% are Catholic.
